TOP 10

Here is a list of my favorite 10 books!

01

Touching Spirit Bear by Ben Mikaelsen

A realistic story of an angry boy from Minneapolis who must change his life or face the consequences.  Cole is sent to Alaska to stay on an island and face his demons.  Will he overcome his anger and what the island throws at him?  The sequel is called Ghost of Spirit Bear.

02

The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan

The first of a fantasy/ adventure series that can be compared to Harry Potter.  In this case, Percy Jackson finds out that he is the son a mythological god, Poseidon.  Just as he learns of his father, he must work with others to stop a war of the gods and save the world.

03

Harry Potter by JK Rowling

I can't choose just one; I love the entire series! :)

04

The Maze Runner by James Dashner

If you liked The Hunger Games, this is a good follow up series.  Recently made a movie, this book follows a boy who is dropped into a community of boys but has no memory of anything.  The boy soon learns that they are stuck in a maze that becomes deadly at night, and any escape depends on every one working together.

05

And Then There were None by Agatha Christie

Ten people arrive on a island for a variety of reasons.  One by one they are murdered until no one is left.  A classic whodunnit by the ultimate mystery writer!

06

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

Another of the dystopian genre, The Hunger Games follows Katniss Everdeen as she volunteers to compete in the games in place of her sister, Primrose.  Will the odds be ever in her favor?

07

Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys

A powerful story that follows Lina, a Lithuanian girl, her mother, and her brother as they are taken by train cattle cars to a work camp in Siberia. Based on stories of real-life survivors, this is a story of survival, hope, and perseverance.

08

Al Capone does my Shirts by Gennifer Choldenko

This is the first in a series of three books set on Alcatraz Island.  Moose Flanagan and his family have moved to Alcatraz when his father takes a job as a prison guard and electrician.  Everyone struggles to adjust to the changes, but his parents rely even more on Moose's help with his autistic sister, Nat.  When Moose finds himself in trouble, he and his friends turn to the most famous inmate on the island.

09

Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli

Her name sets her apart from others, but that's not the only thing different about the new girl, Stargirl.  At first everyone at her school loves those differences.  It doesn't take long for that to change. Stargirl is either ruthlessly teased or just plain ignored.  Will she hold on to the qualities that make her different or make changes in order to become a more "normal" student?

10

The Devil in the White City by Erik Larson

This non-fiction book reads like a novel and describes both the Chicago World Fair of 1893 and the serial killer who found his victims among the crowds of people attending the fair.
